"I have been working with Meghan Van Camp since 2015 when I was first diagnosed with Stage 4 CKD and destined for dialysis within months if there were not drastic changes in my situation. I was extremely obese and had blood pressure readings that if they were between 180 and 200 over 90 they were in my “normal” range and that was with me taking 6 different medications for hypertension as well as mega doses of diuretics. I was determined that I was not going to end up on dialysis (I had recently lost my husband to ESRD and saw him struggle with the dialysis process) so I went to my first nutrition appointment with an open and positive mindset, yet nervous because of the stigma of being the “fat” person in the “skinny” environment. Not once was I ever made to feel uncomfortable. On the contrary I was built up and always made to feel good not only about my successes but even when I didn’t see the progress I wanted, positive points were made visible and I walked out of my appointments feeling like I could succeed. It has been a mindset and lifestyle change, but with Meghan’s guidance I have avoided dialysis, controlled my kidney function labs with nutrition, reduced my blood pressure to normal with the lowest dose of a very old medication, reduced my weight from 315 to 172 in one year and have maintained the weight loss...and most importantly have earned a position on the UNOS Kidney Transplant List. Without Meghan’s help from a nutritional standpoint, I would not be eligible for a transplant, and would likely be on dialysis or more likely dead."
